Evolution of PVC Fittings

Once you set out for a project using PVC settings and pipes, it is quite essential that you have a thorough knowledge of their sizes. Before putting any of the PVC settings to use, their size plays a significant role. If you have trouble regarding the measurement of the size of PVC setting you are working with, it can be made easier through a chart which is readily available with the PVC dealers. The size chart is a quick system by which you can easily know the nominal size of the PVC pipe you are using.

Without a chart, the dimensions could be quite deceiving. You might assume the OD of a pipe different from the original. That is why learning to see the size chart is very important.

A brief on PVC SCH40 Fittings:

PVC schedule 40 fittings or PVC SCH40 fittings , as they are normally called, are often used in residential and home applications. These fittings have got thin walls but the inner diameter is the same as that of SCH80 but the outer diameters are different. The SCH40 fittings are so designed as to handle low water or fluid pressure.

They are generally used in home appliances wherein the water pressure do nor exceed the tolerance limit of these fittings.

A Brief on PCV SCH80 Fittings:

The PVC SCH80 fittings are generally corrosion resistant and are used for cases where the temperature may rise upto 140° F. The pressure may vary from 210 psi to 1230 psi and normally varies with the schedule, pipe size and if course the temperature. These fittings are resistant to most acids, bases, salts, halogens and aliphatic solutions. The built of the fittings is generally rigidly manufactured polyvinyl chloride.

What are Compression Fittings?

Compression fittings are common plumbing tools that are used to join together two electrical conduits which are used to join together two pipes or two tubes.

The PP compression fittings are generally used for hot and cold water faucets and in the stop valves of toilets. They are of common use in industries like chemical, oil and gas, and biochemical.

PVC U Fittings:

Unplasticized Polyvinyl chloride or PVC U are used extensively for all plastic use in pipe installations. They are in great demand owing to their versatility, rigidness and they can be suitably applied to both under and above ground applications.

PVC U fittings have got excellent chemical resistance. They can offer good flow characteristics and also can eliminate the build up of scale.

The Efficient use of PVC in different Valves

At the mention of plastic valves, wgar generally people picture is the low cost and the bright white valves connected to their swimming pool, the aquarium and at most their sanitary connections. But what they overlook is that, nowadays most plastic valves possess a unique design and are rugged products. They have been recently replacing metal valves at large and are quite a better alternative. When conventional valves fail due to corrosion issues, high quality plastic valves mainly available as PVC valves are specified as alternatives. Contrary to the common notion, they sometime cost more than their metal supplants.

A Brief on PVC Butterfly Valves:

Butterfly valves are a type of quarter turn valves that generally possess equal percentage type flow characteristics. They are used in places where moderate flow control is required and can be used both for on or off and modulating services. The butterfly valves possess great tolerance to suspended solids. However, these valves are not recommended for use wherein slurries and debris are involved. The butterfly valves are so designed as to be applied for a number of fluid flow applications.

The main issue of valves for use in commercial or industrial applications is corrosion. Due to an extensive range of fluids being used in the process systems, it has to be made sure that the valves are corrosion resistant. Oftencorrosion and abrasion issues have lead to the failure of the valvesm. To encounter these issues, engineers came up with PVC butterfly valves. These valves met the properties and features missing in the conventional valves and the issues got resolved.

PVC Gate Valves:

When conventional metal gate valves could not meet the varied industry and commercial needs, plactic gate valves came into picture. A PVC gate valve has got a straight-through inflow which ensures a minimal pressure drop. Pressure drop is the major issue faced by valves which leads to their failure. These valves have got larger sitting area than conventional gate valves owing to the unique sliding plug design that is not possible in a metal gate valve.

The PVC gate valves are made of durable and corrosion resistant plastic mainly polyvinyl chloride. The bulit ensures there is no metal to media contact anywhere in the valve thus increasing their life cycle manifold. They are very light weight and as a result are very easy to install.

Knife Gate Valves:

Originally designed for use in paper and pulp industry, knife gate valves are generally used to cut through thick fluids. The benefits of knife gate valves lie in the fact that they are very easy to actuate and the manufacturing cost is quite low. Nowadays, PVC knife gate valves have replaced the conventional ones largely due to their versatility and unique design.

Use of PVC in plumbing tools

A valve is a very important plumbing tool which controls the flow of fluid from one place to another, via a duct or thing of another sort. They are particularly significant in plumbing because of the fact that they control the flow of liquids, whether it is controlling the supply of water or other fluid to a specific area or controlling the drainage from a specific area.

Earlier, the valves were made of various metals. Recently, the plastic valves are in great demand and their use is expanding. These valves are usually made of the most widely used composite known as Polyvinyl Chloride.

Why go for PVC Valves?

The greatest factor due yo which PVC valves are in so demand is their versatility. Today, these types of valves are used in a wide number of areas.

Thermoplastic valves have a range of properties why they are in so wide use. They are corrosion resistant, also chemical and abrasion resistant. Moreover, they are very lightweight and are easy to install. They have got smoother side walls which make them all the more beneficial. These are some of the properties of plastic valves which has made their use far and outreaching both in commercial and industrial fields like water distribution, waste water treatment, food and pharmaceuticals, metal and chemical processing, power plants etc.

A look into PVC Ball Valves:

A ball valve is a plumbing tool used for the control of fluids from one place to another. The ball valve comprises of a rotating ball that contains a hole through the center. The ball is fitted inside the pipe in such a way that when the hole is perpendicular to the flow of water or fluid in the pipe, the valve gets closed.

Nowadays, instead of metal ball valves, PVC ball valves are in great use owing to their versatility and flexibility. They are manufactured by leading plumbing tool companies in a variety of configurations. They can work fine in a highly corrosive environment since they are corrosion resistant. They are very easy to install and have a longer life cycle.

PVC Valves and Fittings:

Plastic valve connectors are advantageous over metal connectors since they are more versatile and unique in their features. Nowadays, every industry demand lightweight and uniquely designed PVC valve and fittings for their equipment and instrumentation.

Plastic connectors are overtaking the place of metal connectors because they have high resistance capability against abrasion and corrosion which automatically gives them a longer life cycle.
